1 hour race driven by Robin Nordbøen a success in the opener of the iRacing Winter VLN Endurance Championship.
Driving a new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, PitStops.ro Racing finished 11th overall and 2nd in its class in the Prologue race for the new Winter VLN Endurance Championship. The short, 1h race, was meant to work as a test both for organizers and for participants, as 37 teams hit the Nürburgring-Nordschleife Combined VLN circuit.
Team manager, Dan Dracea, who did not drive during the 60 minute race, said: “Robin did a great job. We were both very quick in qualifying, which is reassuring, and then he drove well during the race. I am very pleased with our finishing position, as it was realistically the best we could have achieved.”
The #128 Porsche car started the race in 15th after qualifying 2nd in its class. After a sluggish start in which he fell to 3rd, Nordbøen took the position back when the opportunity was there and never let go of 2nd despite a small brush with a barrier. The damage the car sustained was not enough to truly impact the team’s race pace.
“I’m very happy with the results,” Nordbøen said. “Coming 2nd in our class was our goal, and after gaining 2nd place at the end of lap 1, I just focused on not pushing too hard while maintaining a gap to the guys behind.”
The Winter VLN continues with its first real challenge, a 4h race – the first of five points races – in two weeks’ time. “I feel the Prologue definitely helped,” Dracea summarizes. “We found out how it is to drive the Porsche on a crowded track and also gauged the competitive level of the field. It will get harder when points are up for grabs, but we can be optimistic after this weekend.”
